When memory loses syntax
She looks out. Almost smiles.
It’s been a while.
She doesn’t remember – the last time. Must have been some time back.
Her memory is not reliable these days.
Her heart also has a head of its own.
She wonders which one’s playing games!
The crutch of memory or the emptiness in her heart.
She tries to think, again.
It’s back for a fleeting moment – and then it is gone.
And when she turns around, she sees him.
She doesn’t know him. Not any more.
But she smiles.

He stops the car. Looks at the tree.
Looks up. Looks down.
Says a silent prayer: Thank you. For giving me my life back.
